A tall necked jar handcrafted by Santa Ildefonso/Zia/ Jemez Pueblo artist Dora Tse-Pe. Born Theodora Gachupin, to parents Candelaria Medina Gachupin and Antonio Gachupin at Zia Pueblo. She then married into San Ildefonso Pueblo and was taught the style she created most in her career. Dora refined her skills and techniques through years of collaboration, observation and innovation. Beautifully crafted with a simple elegance, this vintage work of art is hand coiled using micaceous clay with a carved Avanyu (water serpent) center design. The Avanyu design depicted as a horned serpent with lightning emerging from its mouth, and represents the importance of water for the people of the Southwest.
A timeless piece perfection as a gift for a new collector or a treasured addition to an existing pottery collection.
Jar measures 3-7/8" long and wide, stands 5" tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
