Handcrafted by award-winning Zuni Pueblo fetish carver Claudia Peina, this Corn Grinder Maiden is a beautiful representation of an ancient art. Carved from ivory-hued antler, the figurine is accented with turquoise, coral and jet stones adorning the neck, face and hair.
The figure depicts a corn maiden grinding corn and is shown wearing a bun hairstyle. A hairstyle sometimes called Squash Blossom Whorls, or Butterfly Whorls, generally worn by unmarried young maidens. Elegant and detailed, this carving connects us to an ancient art, reminds us of the important role of women within our lives.
Caving measures 2-1/2" long and 2-1/4" wide, stands 4" tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
