Early Native American cultures valued astronomy and it served an important role, as the basis for governance, agricultural practices and more. In Hopi culture, the modern era is referred to as the "Fourth World".
This powerful image created by Hopi artist Dalton James depicts a spider sitting on a stylized path based on the design found on Hopi kilts. The image pays homage to Spider Grandmother who plays a prominent role in the Creation story of the Hopi people.
Dalton James is a self-taught artist from Hopi Pueblo, and is a member of the Tobacco Clan from the village of Hotevilla in northeastern Arizona.
Print measures 10" long and 8" wide.
