Lewis Malie Antler Mountain Ram Fetish Carving

Carefully carved from an antler shed Zuni Pueblo artist Lewis Malie created this mountain ram with great skill and care capturing fine detail throughout. With alert eyes and in motion approaching a ledge, this carving is a unique carving of a revered animal in Native American culture.

Fetishes are small carvings that depict animals or other important Native icons. Many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni Pueblo, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers.
