Zuni Pueblo artist Enrike Leekya, carefully handcrafted this horse fetish from Jasper with turquoise added for eyes.
Fetishes are small carvings that depict animals or other important Native American icons. Many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers.
Enrike is a great-grandson of master carver Leekya Deyuse (1889-1966) and within Enrike's work you see the same stylistic elements of his great-grandfather whose animal figures, necklaces and turquoise figurines are still distinctive among fetish carvings and highly valued works of art.
Horse measures 3' long and 1" wide, stands 1-3/4" tall. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
