Helen Tafoya Jemez Sgraffito Hummingbird Vase

This vase is a wonderful example of the detailed sgraffito work of Jemez Pueblo artist Helen Tafoya. Helen was taught by her mother Vangie Tafoya, and carries on the techniques and traditions of the The Tafoya family. The Tafoya's are known for their intricate designs which often incorporate elements of nature and traditional patterns.

Through the sgraffito technique, superfine etching of the pottery's surface, detailed designs emerge without patterns or templates. Entirely made by hand from all-natural element using varied colors of slip the bold hummingbird and traditional design elements add depth and beauty to this piece. With a sophisticated shape this is an exquisite addition to any art collection.
