Stunning and elegant, this handcrafted red on red seed pot by Debra Duwyenie from Santa Clara Pueblo is a fine example of the detailed sgrafitto work Duwyenie has become known to make. A technique practiced by master potters, sgrafitto requires the artist to carefully etch away the top layer of the stone-polished piece to reveal the natural clay underneath creating a contrasting color combination. Debra's pieces are unique in that she is said to do all her sgraffito work in the clay before pieces are fired. She began making pottery in 1979. Daughter of potter Genevieve Tafoya, Debra carries on a generational legacy of pottery making. Her pieces are often inspired by nature, traditional designs and symbols. This detailed piece showcases a lovely border of turtles with a center sunface design. An heirloom piece that will be cherished for generations.
Seed Pot Measures 2-3/4" long and wide, stands 3-1/2" tall. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
