Handcrafted by Zuni Pueblo carver Fred Weekoty, this playful frog with bulging eyes was created using serpentine. Often associated with water and rain, frogs are considered to carry prayers for rain in the songs they sing. They are also known to represent the many cycles of life.
Many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni Pueblo, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers. Traditionally, they depict wolves, bears, mountain lions, eagles, frogs, rabbits, fish, corn maiden, and other animals. The Zuni people believe that the skills and qualities of the animal reside in these fetishes and can bring some of the animals’ power to their keeper.
Frog measures 1-3/4" long and 1-1/8" wide, stands 2" tall. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
