Cheryl Duran Turquoise and Pink Shell Three Strand Heishi Necklace

This three-strand necklace handcrafted by Navajo artist Cheryl Duran is a turquoise and pink shell statement necklace that is sure to become a cherished part of any collection. The classic necklace features freeform beads of turquoise paired with and finely cut pink shell beads to create a colorful unique bead necklace.

Native Americans in the Southwest have been wearing beaded jewelry for centuries. The beaded tradition is most closely associated with Santo Domingo Pueblo, known for creating beautiful shell and gemstone beads by hand. These beads are called “heishi,” which means “shell” in the Santo Domingo language, Keres. Necklaces with similar bead styles have been found in the ancient Ancestral Pueblo (formerly referred to as Anasazi) sites of Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, and heishi may be the oldest form of jewelry in New Mexico.

Necklace measures 32" long and 1-1/8" wide, with braided wax cord with a hook and eye closure. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
