This charming carved fetish pair from Zuni artist Enrike Leekya is a stunning representation of an ancient art. In Zuni culture, each of the six directions north, south, east, west, above and below‚ are guarded by an animal, and the wolf is the guardian of the east. Hand-carved from Picasso marble and accented with turquoise offering bundles and eyes, this exquisite fetish celebrates Zuni culture and the Native American legacy of carving. A symbol of trust and partnership this pair is a wonderful representation of the natural balance in life and the importance of compromise when walking alongside a partner.
Enrike is a great-grandson of master carver Leekya Deyuse (1889-1966) and within Enrike's work you see the same stylistic elements of his great-grandfather whose animal figures, necklaces and turquoise figurines are still distinctive among fetish carvings and highly valued works of art.
Fetish pair measures 2-3/8" long and 5/8' wide,, stands 1-3/4" tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
