Handcrafted by Zuni Pueblo artist Curtis Garcia, this snake features etching throughout, an element that Curtis adds to his pieces which give additional depth. In Zuni culture, the snake symbolizes life, death, and rebirth and in this hand carved Picasso marble snake accented with contrasting turquoise, Curtis shares a celebration of Zuni culture and the Native American legacy of carving.

While many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers. Early Zuni fetishes were called "Ahlashiwe", or stone ancients. Traditionally, they depict wolves, bears, mountain lions, eagles, frogs, rabbits, fish, corn maiden, and other animals.

Carving measures 4-1/8" long and 1-1/4" wide, stands 1/2" tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
