Description
Native Americans are inspired by their rich cultural history and the traditions of art, dance, community, and cuisine that have been carefully handed down for generations.

The basket in Hopi culture, has a utilitarian uses as well as important part in seasonal ceremonies. For young women who receive these baskets, they are a form of exchange used to thank people for various gestures of support and gratitude. This drawing depicts stylized Hopi maiden holding a stylized Hopi basket surrounded by butterflies and symbols of prayer for health and happiness in a matted 8" long and 10" wide print.

Dalton James is a self-taught artist from Hopi Pueblo, and is a member of the Tobacco Clan from the village of Hotevilla in northeastern Arizona.
